The Ideal Age for Newborn Photos
The best time to photograph a newborn baby is between 5 and 14 days old.
During this short window:
- Babies sleep very deeply
- They naturally curl into womb-like positions
- They are less sensitive to movement
- They are easier to safely pose
After two weeks, babies begin stretching their arms and legs, become more alert, and are more easily disturbed during posing.
This is why those peaceful, sleepy newborn photos you see online can only happen during the early days of life.
Why You Should Book During Pregnancy
Here is something many parents don’t realize:
You should book your newborn photographer while you are still pregnant — ideally between 20-32 weeks.
Newborn photographers do not schedule by a fixed date.
We schedule by your due date and reserve space in our calendar around your delivery.
Once the baby arrives, parents simply notify the photographer within 48 hours, and we schedule the session within the first 1-2 weeks.
Waiting until after birth often means:
- Photographers are fully booked
- You miss the ideal posing window
- You end up doing the session at 4–6 weeks (which becomes a baby portrait, not a newborn session)
What If My Baby Comes Early or Late?
This is very common — and completely fine.
Professional newborn photographers always leave flexibility around your due date. Whether your baby arrives 2 weeks early or 10 days late, we adjust the session timing accordingly.
